ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical procedures in the world. During the treatments, very fine, sterile, single-use needles are inserted into specific points on the body. Specific groupings of points send a message through the body to balance physiological function, reduce pain, and stimulate the immune system. It has a profound impact on organ function, the nervous system, hormonal levels, circulation, sleep patterns, and energy level.

The needles are left in for 20 to 30 minutes while you relax on a massage table. Acupuncture is a very gentle procedure and most patients go into a state of deep relaxation, and some even fall asleep due to the endorphins that are released during the treatment.

HERBAL THERAPY

The use of plant and animal products to sustain health and wellness has been refined over thousands of years to create a powerful, complex, and effective system of medicine.  Herbs and supplements are used today in traditional medicine clinics throughout the world. Herbal therapy is used to treat both the symptoms of illness and the underlying root of the disharmony. They come in the form of teas, powders, pills, tinctures, external plasters, and even soup broths.  Download our herb instructions resource for more information.

CUPPING + GUA SHA MASSAGE

Cupping is a traditional practice where glass cups are placed on the body to relieve pain, muscle tension, and enhance circulation. The practitioner creates a vacuum inside the cup that suctions to the skin and brings fresh blood to the area. Cupping usually leaves painless superficial discoloration on the skin, ranging from light pink to dark purple, that will completely vanish after 1-4 days. Patients with more stagnation tend to develop darker marks, that may look like bruises but are not at all painful.

Gua Sha massage is preformed with a smooth tool, used to scrape and massage the skin to relieve muscle tension, stagnation, reduce scar tissue, and enhance the immune system. Like cupping, Gua Sha may leave a slight discoloration or painless bruise on the skin that dissipates in 1-4 days.

MOXIBUSTION

Moxibustion is a heat therapy and one of the oldest traditional medicine treatments, even pre-dating acupuncture. Moxa is processed and refined mugwort that is used to warm areas of the body and acupuncture points.  This treatment stimulates the flow of Qi (energy), expel cold and stagnation, and to enhance the immune system. It is often used for pain and injury, gynecological issues, digestive issues, immunity, and to promote overall health.

NUTRITION + DIETARY THERAPY

Nutrition is an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine, where foods are used based on their flavor, temperature, and nature. Depending on a patient's constitution and current health concerns, dietary recommendations are a powerful way to balance and recharge the body. Acupuncture treatments may include dietary and lifestyle recommendations, and patients are always welcome to ask questions and request further guidance to support their treatment.

Seasonal cleansing and elimination diets can be very therapeutic and vary widely. The focus should be to increase nutrient-dense whole foods, and eliminate foods that are often a source of sensitivities, inflammation, disharmony, and allergic reactions. Diets and cleanses can be very tricky and are not recommended for everybody, or to be done too frequently. However, a gentle, mindful, and appropriately-timed elimination diet can powerfully recharge and rebalance the body and mind.
